India’s fastest train Gatimaan Express to cover Delhi-Agra distance in 100 minutes, to be launched tomorrow

India’s fastest train, Gatimaan Express will start plying between Hazrat Nizammuddin, Delhi, to Agra Cantt from tomorrow. The train will be launched by Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu by remote from his office at 10 am.

After months of testing the much awaited trail will start its journey from April 5 with shehnai playing in the backdrop. It will give a first of its kind experience to the passengers, where they will be welcomed by ‘train hostesses’. Passengers will be given free access to multimedia content such as movies, news and cartoons during their journey to Agra.

The train will cover the 200 kilometers long journey in just 100 minutes. However, Shatabdi Express, which runs between New Delhi Railway Station to Agra Cantonment was the fastest train till now, which takes around 2 hours to complete the journey. While the regular travel time for an express train on the same route is 3 to 4 hours or even more.

The fares of Gatimaan Express are comparatively higher than Shatabdi express and have been fixed at Rs.690 for AC Chair Car and Rs. 1,365 for executive class.

Another feature in the new train is free access to wi-fi during the travel. The service will give users access to a wide variety of multimedia content such as movies, videos, TV serials, film documentaries.

Gatimaan Express will run six days a week except on Fridays in both the directions when Taj Mahal remains closed. The train will depart at 8:10 am from Nizamuddin Railway Station and will arrive at 9:50 am in Agra. Similarly in the evening it will depart at 5:50pm from Agra and will reach Nizamuddin at 7.30 pm.

The train is equipped with a high speed engine with two Executive AC Chair Cars and eight AC Chair Car coaches. It has a high-power emergency braking system, automatic fire alarm and GPS-based passenger information system.
