Akshaya Tritiya is related to Lord Krishna and his childhood Brahmin friend Sudama, when he visited Dwarka and asked Krishna for some financial help. Soon Krishna came to know that his childhood friend came to meet him he welcomed him with a huge warmth as he believed the principle of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’. Further Krishna also washed his friends feet and asked what did he get for him? Sudama was ashamed to offer his gift to Krishna after seeing his richness and considered it to be of no value.

Sudama offered Krishna rice flakes (poha) as a gift and Krishna relished this gift of his dear friend which was a tribute of pure love, close friendship and deep care. Further Sudama did not ask for financial favor and returned back to his home with a contented heart, but as soon as he reached his old house was transformed into a beautiful palace.

Another epics of Akshaya Tritiya is during Mahabharata times, when the Pandavas were in exile, Lord Krishna had Yudhishthira also known as ‘Akshaya Patra’ which was a serving bowl of food for the entire kingdom. It is said that on the day of Akshaya Tritiya the Satya Yuga i.e Golden Era started wherein it is believed that Ved Vyasa started narrating the greatest epic Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha.
