Delhi hosts three-day International Yoga Fest

A three-day International Yoga Fest, as a Curtain Raiser for International Day of Yoga (IDY)-2016, was inaugurated by the Minister of State for AYUSH and Health & Family Welfare, Shripad Yesso Naik in New Delhi from April 20.
Yoga demonstration by Divyangs and a dance performance by well known Odissi dancer Reel Hot were the highlights of the inaugural session.

Addressing the participants from key yoga institutions and organizations of the country, Naik said that Yoga was the greatest gift of this country to the entire mankind and in the past few decades, the health aspects of Yoga had become more popular all around. He also released the Common Yoga Protocol DVD of the IDY this year and went around the exhibition on Yoga at the venue.

Yoga can play a great role in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases where conventional medicine is not having permanent or cost-effective solution, he said. Yoga is beneficial in problems related to working in high altitude areas, working in extreme climatic conditions and various stressful situations. Yoga can enhance the endurance among the sports person, he stated in a PIB release.

The National level function on IDY has been proposed to be held at Chandigarh on 21st June this year. Also, a Yoga Olympiad has been planned by NCERT to popularize Yoga among the youth.

K. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of SBV, released the posters for Yoga Fest Events.

The first-look posters for the Yoga Fest 2016 and International Day of Yoga celebrations to be held in June were released at the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth:
