It is a day to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe and to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to the negative health effects. For this noble purpose, International reputed Sand artist Sri Manas Kumar Sahoo has created a sand sculpture on the golden sea beach, near light house of Puri at the distance of 65 KM from Bhubaneswar the capital of Odisha.

World No Tobacco Day primarily focuses on encouraging users to refrain from tobacco consumption and its related products for a period of at least 24 hours. World No Tobacco Day was first observed in 1987, after a cabinet of the WHA (World Health Assembly) passed a motion supported by the WHO, with guidelines to manage and curb tobacco consumption. In this year the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2016 was “Get ready for plain packaging”.

The message behind this sand sculpture is that with each puff of tobacco/cigarette carries a small death and reduces one’s life span each time he/she smokes. Today’s young men start it as fun but falls into the trap. The sand sculpture is of 15 feet width made with 15 tons of sand, with a hard labor of nearly 7 hours and with a message “World No Tabacco Day“.

Smokers will tell you that there’s nothing better than lighting up after a hard day’s work. But most smokers will also tell you that their greatest wish is to put an end to their nasty habit.

In India, over one million annual deaths are the result of smoking-related illnesses, not to mention the fact that smoking dramatically increases the risk of getting all kinds of cancer. (Okay, we’ll spare you the lecture. Seriously though, stamp out that butt and flush the pack already!)

So, are you a regular smoker? Have you been trying to kick the habit for a while now? Have you unsuccessfully tried to quit in the past? Whether you’re a social or regular smoker, the following ads and posters will encourage you to quit smoking today! And if you do in fact decide to quit right now, in the next 20 minutes, your blood pressure and heart rate will return to normal. This immediately lowers your risk of having a heart attack. Your circulation will also improve, bringing fresh blood to your fingers and toes, so they may start to tingle. How tempting is that?

Tobacco consumption causes around 6 million deaths each year worldwide. This includes around 600,000 of which are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand or passive smoke.
