Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living begins World Cultural Festival, Live News & Updates from Day 1: Narendra Modi reaches venue

Despite controversies surrounding the venue of the fest, Prime Minister Modi is attending the cultural extravaganza.


5:40 PM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the venue of Sri Sri’s event. He is expected to address participants of World Cultural Festival shortly.

New Delhi, Mar 11: Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art Of Living (AOL) fest began in Noida on Friday. The three day event, named as, ‘World Cultural Festival’ is celebrated to mark the 35th birth anniversary of AOL. Sri Sri’s socio-religious outfit has gained prominence in several parts of the world. Volunteers of the outfit from 151 nations are participating in the event. Performing arts group from various parts of the world are also participating making it a one-of-a-kind cultural extravaganza

The event not only centres around the celebration of cultural diversity and richness, it would also serve as a platform where religious leaders of several nations would unite and send out a message of tolerance. Religious extremism and terrorism would be challenged by the moderate clerics who would arrive at the event.

Among the keynote speakers for the first day of the event includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite controversies surrounding the venue of the fest, Modi has confirmed that he would be attending. Delhi Chief Minister would also be addressing the participants of the event on the final day.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been fined by National Green Tribunal for violating environmental norms. The venue chosen for the event is the bank of River Yamuna in Noida. Activists allege that flaura and fauna of the region has been deteriorated through the construction. The event, with an estimated footfall of 3.5 million people would permanently destroy the fragile ecosystem of Yamuna.
